Empowering students with body-positive talks

Embracing Difference: Joti Gata-Aura Inspires School & Sixth-Form Students with Her Body Confidence Journey

When Joti Gata-Aura steps into a classroom, she brings more than just words—she brings lived experience, honesty, and the kind of confidence that comes from truly owning who you are.

Speaking recently to a group of sixth-form students in London, Joti shared her powerful story of living with vitiligo, a skin condition that causes loss of pigmentation. But her message goes far beyond skin deep.

As a body confidence coach and founder of Positively Diverse, Joti helps young people reflect on their self-perception and how they view others. Her talk covered key themes such as:

  • Body positivity and self-worth: Encouraging students to value themselves beyond appearance, and recognise that confidence comes from within.

  • Representation matters: Exploring how the media and fashion influence our perception of 'normal' and why diverse representation is essential.

  • Turning difference into strength: Sharing how vitiligo became her superpower, Joti empowers students to reframe what makes them ‘different’ as something to be proud of.

Her open, relatable style sparks meaningful conversations around identity, self-acceptance and resilience—conversations that today’s students need more than ever. Because, as Joti reminds us: “Confidence doesn’t come from fitting in—it comes from standing out.”

Ms Gata-Aura’s talk to our Year 12 students was both informative and poignant. Whilst informing our students about Vitiligo Ms Gata-Aura, and alumna of our school, used her teaching experience to set the tone in the room, and enable our students to consider their own safety nets and resources for comfort and strength during future challenges. By reminding them that Childline remains there for them, as well as their form leaders and school staff, she fostered nurturing and understanding in her talk. I would highly recommend bringing Ms Gata-Aura to any school with a desire to foster nurturing and understanding amongst their students.
